Nothing more British than fish and chips

English is not only known for clotted cream and scones, but the collection of quintessentially British foods also write fish and chips at the top line as a national dish due to its popularity worldwide.

A standard portion consists mainly of freshly crispy deep-fried fish and chips topped with salt and vinegar, tartare sauce on the side. You can upgrade your meal with mushy peas, pickled egg or seasonal salad.

Many research revealed that the first fish and chips had been served since 1860 in London which was originally a family business running from the front room of the house to a food stall in the local market.

When in London, you can see a thousand spots serving fish and chips, but in this blog, I will recommend three hidden gems serving this British national dish that I absolutely fell in love with their amazing foods and services at a very first time.

Taking a stroll around Notting Hill which is filled with lots of local pubs and restaurants. I pop into The Fish House Of Notting Hill to order two portions of Haddock fish and chips with mushy pea and chicken pie with a pickled egg that is such a splendid combo for a cold day. The food is incredibly fresh and rich which are cooked at a perfect temperature, to be crispy outside and soft inside.

Convent Garden has long been popular as a shopping and tourist site that you’re easy to find a local shop serving fish and chips for over 140 years as Rock and Sole Plaice. I start with a house mixed salad topped with olive oil and fresh lemon. The waiter then brings out two dishes of Rock fish with tartare sauce and chicken mushroom pie with chips on the side. Believe me, the food is absolutely brilliant.

After paying for the bill, the waiter gives me two lovely postcards for sharing my experience with friends.

Another over-100-years-old fish and chips shop I highly recommend is Golden Hind located in the heart of Marylebone High St., just 10 mins walk from Oxford Circus station.

This cozy restaurant has opened since 1914 having a wide range of fishes, that mainly serves classic deep-fried fish with chips, and steamed fish with olive oil and oregano. As a habit, I choose 2 portions of Haddock fish with chunky chips and seasonal leaves salad. The food is definitely fresh, tasty and delightful at a reasonable price.
